The origin of the Delphic Games is the Pythian Games?

The world-class polo arena will be constructed in Jeju for the first time in Korea.

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on 2 it approved and notified the detail plan for the polo arena construction project promoted by Korea Polo Country Club (the president Lee, Joo Bae).


Korea Polo Country Clue plans to invest 23.3 billion won until 2010 and establish polo arena, subsidiary stadium, accommodation, club house, indoor race track and driving range, etc.


International polo arena in Northeast Asia is only one in China.


The developer plans to operate this arena as membership system with targeting to employees at foreign embassies in Singapore, China and Japan, executives of foreign corporations and polo club members in Asia.


In the Federation of International Polo (FIP), 27 countries in Asia, 24 countries in Europe, 24 countries in America, and 16 countries in Africa have registered as members, and Korea also registered in May 2006.


Polo is a game played between two teams of players. The players ride horses and use wooden hammers with long handles to hit a ball. It was in the Olympic Game in 1900 - 1939.

Delphic이란?


델픽경기는 기원전 582년부터 시작되어 AD 394년까지 계속된 고대 그리스 도시국가들의 문화예술 경연이다. 올림픽이 최고의 신 제우스에게 바쳐졌다면, 델픽경기는 태양신이자 의술·예언·음악·무용·시의 신인 아폴론에게 바쳐졌다. 아폴론에게 바쳐진 만큼 아폴론 신전이 있는 델피에서 열렸기 때문에 델픽이라는 이름이 붙여진 것이다.


델픽 경기는 예술과 함께하는 정신적 세계와 관련된 축제였으며, 여기에 예술과 정신세계를 그리고자 하는 인간들의 육체적 노력이 곁들여진 그야말로 몸과, 마음과 정신이 하나가 되는 인간 자체를 모두 아우르는 상당히 고차원적인 축제라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 델픽 경기로 인하여 고대 그리스의 평화는 물론 과학과 예술이 향상되었다.


고대 그리스에서 개최된 4대 제전이 the Pythic(Delphic 경기의 다른 이름), the Olympic, the Isthmic과 the Nemean 등이었는데, 현재 세계적으로 가장 활발히 펼쳐지고 있는 올림픽과 맞먹는 수준의 고대 경기였다는 것을 알 수 있다.


하지만 이 델픽 경기는 로마의 테오도시우스 황제가 이교도 활동이라며 금지하였기 때문에 지속되지 못하고 말았다. 이교도 활동으로 금지될 때까지 1000년간 델픽경기가 지속되었다.

2. Delphic Games의 개요



델픽경기는 1,600년 이상 금지되었는데, 20세기 초에 이르러서야 다시 개최되었다. 하지만 1927년부터 1936년까지 3년에 한 번씩 규칙적으로 개최되다가 세계 제2차 세계대전으로 인하여 그 맥이 끊겼다.


이러한 델픽 경기의 맥을 잇기 위하여 델픽운동이 일어났는데, 델픽운동은 독일의 키르슈(J. Christian B. Kirsch)가 1994년 국제델픽위원회(IDC; International Delphic Council)를 조직하면서 시작되었다. 1994년 당시 5개 대륙 18개국에서 대표들이 참석하여 IDC를 구성하였다.


IDC 본부는 베를린에 있고, 2005년 현재 31개국이 참여하고 있다. IDC는 델픽운동을 되살리기 위해 2년 시차를 두고 4년마다 주최국을 달리하면서 청소년 델픽 경기와 성인 델픽경기를 연다.


경연 분야는 공연예술(Performing Arts), 시각예술(Visual Arts), 언어예술(Lingual Arts),전통예술(Traditional Arts), 사회예술(Social Arts), 생태예술(Ecological Arts) 등이며, 무용·연극·성악·기악·서커스·회화·조각·시·동화·웅변·건축·컴퓨터게임 등이 포함 된다.
